Purpose

Power Missionaries is set up solely for the purpose of building young people by POWERING CHANGE TO ONE LIFE AT A TIME.   Providing a safe platform for these children from a variety of disadvantaged demographics, the mission is aiming to help them reach their potentials and flourish in many facets of life. Our activities are aimed towards supporting two projects, one local and overseas.

Firstly, supporting children within the Local Community through a Support “Mentor Resilience Program” held in Brunswick, Victoria, Australia. Targeting children from multiple disadvantaged demographics and by sponsoring individuals through the “Mentoring Resilience Program” our mission is to support building the capacity of young people, physically and mentally by equipping them with tools for life.

Secondly, Power Missionaries aims to support “St Barnabas Orthodox Orphanage and School” who are providing children a healthy start and reflective journey of life whilst nurturing them into successful individuals.  Power Missionaries support will assist a developing country overseas towards relief for food, shelter, healthcare to over 500 needy children at the “St Barnabas Orthodox Orphanage and School” located in Kenya.

Overseas Project

St Barnabas Orthodox Orphanage and School commenced in June 2007 by Fr. Methodius J.M Kariuki and his wife, Papadhia Everlyn Mwangi. Whilst Father and his wife were preparing for lunch, three boys appeared amongst a rubbish area near their home.  Inviting the children to have lunch, Father and his wife continued feeding them daily.  More children were brought to them.  They went onto formalising learning for the children by renting four rooms, serving as a chapel and a catechetical class.  At this particular time, Fr Karuiki was earning $30 per month employed in a Studio and his wife in an Academy earning $50 per month. Earnings and financial standings continue to be transparent to better understand the purpose behind this establishment is solely to provide the children with a healthy start and reflective journey of life whilst nurturing them into successful individuals.

What makes this cause stand out is their zeal to work with children individually on their personal development to address their spiritual, economic, social and physical needs. Every child is provided many windows of opportunities to be nurtured whilst growing into responsible and strengthened individuals enabling them to endure life’s trials along the way.

Why is there a need for this new organisation?

The need for Power Missionaries is fundamental as it offers both crucial components, mental and physical required for the development of the children’s recovery and growth as a complete wellbeing tool.  Building the capacity of young people, physically and mentally by equipping them with tools for life.

We identified children often received the emotional mental building element regarding mentoring and resilience although often lacked the physical portion or vice versa.  Where the physical component existed, often discovered very little was offered towards the emotional mental building component.  Power Missionaries is aiming to achieve both the mental emotional and physical element of mentoring children.  By properly looking after their body as well as emotional and learning how to defend, Boxing is an excellent confidence booster for them. Increasing their self-esteem and assisting the children, building up confidence that will also be used during later years in their lives.

Following careful consideration and thorough research, Boxing is selected as the suitable physical component.  By properly looking after their body as well as emotionally and learning how to defend, this art is an excellent confidence booster for the children. We have specifically chosen Boxing as the intensity helps the endorphins flowing, which assist in elevating mood subsequently serving as a form of natural anti-anxiety.   It is an excellent tool for stress even for a few minutes at a time, as full concentration is required.  The skilled craft will be increasing their self-esteem, assisting the children by building up confidence that will also be used during later years of their lives applying the same fundamentals.

All of the entire purposes of Power Missionaries are solely for charitable purposes, except purposes that are ‘incidental or ancillary to’ the charitable purposes.

All of the entire purposes of Power Missionaries are solely for charitable purposes.  All profits will be distributed equally to St Barnabas Orthodox Orphanage and School as well to the Local Project “Mentoring Resilience Program.” Both missions are aiming to help children reach their potentials and flourish in many facets of life.
